Yoga for Children with Autism
10/22/2016 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 12:00 pm on Saturday, repeating until 12/18/2016
This is an hour long class for children and adolescents with autism. The main purpose of the class is to reach a point of deep relaxation. We start with breathing exercises and we move slowly through the asanas. All the poses can be modified depending on the level of the child, no prior yoga experience needed, or flexibility.
The main objective of the class is beyond physical. Indeed, it is important for all of us to have a space to relax and recharge, it is particularly important, however, for individuals in the autism spectrum to have that space. Children in the autism spectrum often go through different therapies in which they are challenged to be or act in a way that does not come naturally for them. This can be draining and a source of constant stress. During yoga class, together we can create a space of love and acceptance beneficial for everyone in the room. Join us and experience for yourself!
The class is thought by Dr. Lina Maria Moyano, who specializes in coaching parents of children in the autism spectrum to have a deeper emotional connection with the child to help overall development.
